Making art....

Lately I've been a little bit away from collage... I thought I should give it a rest for a few days to recharge my batteries...I needed some change, and I'm using other media as well. So far I've made some watercolors and some big paintings. The paintings are not in the same style I used to have. I changed a bit. This time I didn't used the gritty texture that was my signature for quite a long time, but other kind. I'm also using big canvases, as opposed to my usual mini canvas.

The watercolors are some very brilliant, some not so much.

And some paintings are just quiet, calm and simple.

And I also made a doll. My first with roundhead!!!

I don't know how much longer this prolific phase will last, but I'm enjoying it a lot... I even want to make a collage again!

As promised...

Frida Kahlo's former home!!! I was so excited!!! It's called "La Casa Azul" (The blue house) and God it is blue!!! As far as I could see, she came for a very wealthy family... not everybody could have a house like this one.... for what I could see, some part of it was added when Frida and Diego lived there (What is now the studio). Oooooooooooh I wish you could see the inside, but pics weren't allowed inside either :( One of my favorite parts was a dress they have hanging from the wall complete with the hair accesories she used, posing for the viewers... it was like seeing her in person... sigh... anyway, these are mi pics:

The front door, blue everywhere....

This is the entrance... you can see the big paper mache judas hanging from the walls

This is me VERY HAPPY to be there.. can you tell?

The exhibition starts here... the leyend says "Frida and Diego lived in this house"

One of the many pieces of pre-colombian art that are in the house (Frida collected them)

A cat!

The view from the room where her bed was displayed:

More judas, made specially for Frida and Diego by a local artist:

One of the bathrooms (I told you I wasn't allowed to take pics inside, so I took everything I could outside)

My favorite part, the studio!!!!

And that's it!... no many pictures but the trip was soooo worth it!!! If you want to learn more about this museum, click here: Casa Azul

Oh and I brought some goodies, if you want one, just leave a comment and I'll do the drawing this weekend and send them to the winners ;)

What do you think?

I just found this very fun site:

http://www.colorstrology.com/

It tells you what your exact color is according with your birthday and even gives you the pantone number!.... My description was very, very accurate... my husband is quite an skeptic, he says it's just an statistical fluke... what do you think?

I'm done

I finished! I can't believe is over.... I'm dying to talk to somebody about it, but they haven't finished. I promise I won't post any spoilers though. I'll be strong and wait until others finish it....

Anyway, I managed to finish other things too in the weekend. I have now many new products in my Cafepress store. I have journals, coffee mugs, and ornaments. If you are interested, you can find them here:
www.danitaart.com

I also added some products to my Etsy store. I've been experimenting and I made new pendants with poker chips and hand made journals for your little secrets or sketches. Those can be found at:

danitashop.etsy.com

I still have pending the pictures of the Casa Azul (Frida's former home). I also bring some goodies for my readers that I'll be giving away this days.

Have a great week!

I'm back!!!

Hi!! I'm back from my Frida trip!!!! I can't believe I was there... it was something I just gotta see. For all of you waiting for pictures, I'm sorry. No pictures allowed inside.... but here are a few just to give you an idea of what was the exhibition.

This is the place where the Frida exhibit was. It's called "Palacio de Bellas Artes" If you're an artist (any kind) this is the ultimate gallery to present your work. Built in the turn of the 20th century, it's a beautiful architectural piece and held a sacred place for Mexican artists.

The exhibition was stunning. There were almost every work that Frida made. I was a little bit disappointed because my favorite wasn't there (The wounded deer) ... but looking at "The two Fridas" in person was worth the trip....
The many showrooms were filled with lots of Frida stuff... there were also one with lots of letters hanging from the ceiling and covered with Plexiglas... you could read one by one and turn it around for a more interactive experience. There were letter to her doctor as well as to Diego and family members, postcards and greeting cards.

The whole experience was beautiful... the place was big and still very crowded... thousands of people have gone to see the exhibition and everyday is fuller than the other... just take a look at the line in this picture just to enter:

I'll post some more pictures later. I also went to Casa Azul (Frida's former home) which is even better than the exhibition, and I have pics of that.... now I'm off to make more rice... the one I was cooking got burned because of this post lol

Danita in wonderland

Alice: Oh no no no... thank you, but- but I just wanted to ask you which way I ought to go.

Cheshire Cat: Well, that depends on where you want to get to.

Alice: Oh, it really doesn't matter, as long as I g...

Cheshire Cat: Then it really doesn't matter which way you go!

Today I woke up with the news that I've been offered my job back. I quit a year ago to take care of my baby and that has given me the opportunity to paint more. But painting is not an easy job. And not a secure one either. You never know if you're going to sell your paintings, or if you are going to be able to make them. An office job, in the other hand, gives you a sense of security. You know that no matter what, as long as you do your job, you're going to have your check every month. I love doing what I do, but also wonder if I should go back and have a normal job. So weird, I dreamed last night that I had my ex-boss called me and asked me to go to a interview again... I just wish I could be sure that the path I took is the right way to go...

Me too

This is exactly what I should be doing, but instead, I'm here, surfing the internet....

I've been very distracted lately. I went to my mom's this weekend and I always return with lots of things to do and no time to do them. Besides I just started exercising and I'm exhausted. I managed to make 2 paintings and now my sleep is somewhere between the paper scraps... and I need the rest so bad!!!... don't you hate it when you WANT to sleep but you just CAN'T???
At least I'm going to try and go to bed.... I hope my thoughts go somewhere else and let me rest...

Wishes...

My favorite Calvin & Hobbes cartoon. Sometimes we dream too big, without realizing that most of the great things in life are already within reach...
