I'm almost 30 and I still believe in Santa...

It's not news for anybody that I spend most of my days all alone with my baby (the poor thing!) as I'm not from here and haven't found any good friends. Friend to whom I can talk about my art life without that question sign (?) in their faces... So for Christmas I asked for just one thing: A friend! Someone who would understand me when I talk about Ebay or Etsy, who likes to read and if she's a mother even better. Someone kind and extroverted, someone who would like the same things that i do... and guess what? Santa granted me my wish. I found her... or even better, she found me! And it's so great! Her name is Lillian and she is an artist too. And she sells on eBay, which make things great because I don't need to explain everything, I just mention the things and she gets me. And she loves Harry Potter!!! Besides, my baby and hers got well along and we both speak Spanish better than English, ha!... I'm a lucky girl!

PS: Click on the image to make it larger. Santa is asking the girl (me) what she wants for Christmas, and she's telling him that all she wanted is a friend (with my face as a girl, representing a friend LIKE me)... I made it last year on Christmas season :)

Preparing the canvas. I like this part of the process. When everything is new and white and ready for whatever I want to do. But it's also a very scary part. The canvas are so perfect that way you may get afraid of ruining them. So that's what I do. I just can't seem to make a perfect sketch... I just draw and draw and draw on it until I like what I see (believe me, I know which one of all those marks are the ones... but for the example I mark them on red).

Once the canvas is on this condition, I'm not afraid anymore. There's nothing to ruin there. I can paint freely and happily, with no hesitation (just lots of paint to cover the mess!).

Most of the women I know (including me) love jewelry. Even if you don't wear it, there's something really beautiful about it. I'm not a fan of gold or anything too fancy, I prefer more humble materials. And lucky me, brass is all the rage now. It looks vintage. I love vintage!! So I made some pendants. And they looked really lonely. So I made them necklaces. And they needed shiny stuff. So I added glass beads and this is the result!! I'm so excited, I just love them. They will be for sale very soon. If you want one before they go for sale just let me know, or if you just love them let me know too! (Just don't let me know if you hate them please!)

I don't know if it's the warm weather (inside my house) or the industry but I can't stop thinking about spring. I went to Target this weekend to buy a coat and they don't even have sweaters anymore. All they have are bikinis and swimsuits and flip flops!!! So that kind of make me feel like it's spring already... and I made some paintings, with very bright colors (not my usual lately) and I love them! I specially love this one with a bird-woman (She says she's only a bird). I even used orange on the sides!!! Maybe I needed some color in my life. And some birds.

After much thought and many comments in the previous post, I finally made my mind. I definitely went for the antique wash. Not much the crackle because I wanted it to be melancholic... I think It looks great.... Thank you all for your help!!!

How do you like it best? As is or should I add some crackle or antique wash? I just can't decide!

As if being addicted to paper and magazines weren't enough, I'm addicted to Starbucks too. I just can't get enough. If you let me, I would drink their coffees everyday. And for 3 days I did. We went to a mini-vacation (3 days) to Ruidoso, N.M. and I drank lots of them! You're supposed to go there to sky but when we arrived to the top of the mountain my baby's nose started to get purple.. so we decided we will be better off at the bottom, where it was less cold. We had a lot of fun anyway. The little town is beautiful, and the woods too.
And we got to see lots of snow!!! No internet though. Sometimes you just need to get away from everything. I managed to made a few sketches and purchase a glue stick and made a micro collage with the only things I had. My moleskine, napkings and a paper bag they gave me when I purchased this cup:

Now, I have like 3 zillion pending things to do and a new Wii in my TV room... not fair!!!! But you gotta do what you gotta do... so, my Wii will have to wait for now.

A lifetime dream...

Yesterday I fulfilled one of my lifetime dreams... You'll see. As a child, I used to play that I had my own store and I made calculators with a rolled piece of paper that I unrolled and pressed as if it had keys. I dreamed about a real one. I longed for one with one of those cute rolls where you could print lots and lots of number! As an adult, I just forgot about it, but yesterday I went to pick up some office supplies ... and I couldn't resist!!! I bought one! (Mr. Danita insisted we didn't needed one... I insisted I NEDEED it!). So I didn't make any art yesterday, I spent all my time typing numbers and adding and subtracting! (it prints in red too!)... I felt like a child again! Mr. Danita told me he hadn't seen me that excited over anything... he was right. And my daughter loves it too! I think she won't have to play with a piece of paper when she gets older :P
