The pull toy that refused to be pulled... or the story of Danita

I've been thinking a lot about my childhood lately. Maybe because of the paper dolls or maybe because one of my best friends ever since I was born is coming to visit me today... I don't know the reason, what I know is that the child that everybody used to push and pull around is now gone.

I used to be the tallest in my class. Always. And I was the youngest. That was a bad combination. I entered school 1 year before I was supposed to because I was "ready"... or so my parents thought. But I don't think I was. I was too naive to be at school yet... and everybody took advantage of me. And because I was the tallest I was supposed to treat everybody well or else I always was the bully and I always got punished. If they took away my lunch and I took it back I was the bully. If I took their lunch away I was the bully, so I also had to be nice. And that had followed me all my life. For almost 30 years I've been that way, always nice, always trying to be accepted. Always moving out of the way of everybody else so I didn't have any problems with anyone. Well, not anymore. Yesterday something changed in me, and I didn't know I was that strong. Now I have a kid and I cannot and will not let anyone do with me whatever they want. Begining today, I am the pull toy that refuses to be pulled.

Paper dolls anyone?

When I was a kid I didn't have the finer things in life, but I surely had a lot of fun... One of my fondest memory is playing with paper dolls. I cut models from old magazines and made dresses for them. I also bought paper dolls that came in a sheet of paper and you had to glue them to card stock because the paper was so cheap they tore very easily... Then new ones came. Ones in little books in which the dolls where from card stock and the dresses from copy paper. I'm so fond of them as I'm of the many memories I have playing with my sisters and cousins.


One of my cousins found one of my dolls in a box and gave it to me. She's so worn... I remember taping her neck so it would be more resistant, she still has that tape! I almost cried when I saw it again after almost 20 years lost. It's incredible how some simple pieces of paper can bring you so much joy to your life.

That's why I made my own paper doll. I named her Marie in honor of my daughter. She is accompanied by her friends, Perro and Gato (dog and cat) and her very own cloud (we all need our very own cloud).
Need a wish? Dress her with her fairy dress and you got it!
Want to go underwater? She's ready, dress her with her mermaid tail and she can go as deep as you want.
Not sure what to do? She also has her everyday dress that she can wear while you decide.
And when you're done, just dress her with her night gown and her teddy bear and she will be ready to go to bed.

We just planted this tree in the park in front of our house last week. I want to take a picture of both every year. That will be one of our traditions.

Congratulations... to me!!!

Today I made this entry in my journal. It's a special day. On a day like today 3 years ago I decided to start selling my little paintings on ebay and started with just one...a little Frida painting on canvas that wasn't even mounted. I didn't think it will sell but it did and that motivated me to keep painting and the rest is history. A lot of work has been done in the past 3 years and I hope to keep doing this for my lifetime as it is what I really love. I've grown a lot as an artist and as a person. I had a baby. I completely changed my style. I learned new techniques. I met wonderful people. I became part of wonderful groups. THANK YOU, really, from the bottom of my heart for your support. If you ever bought a painting or just sent me a comment, everything is deeply appreciate it. I cannot do this without you, You've made me what I am. Thank you.

Books for sale

I had an ultimatum from Mr. Danita. Or I get rid of some books or I can't buy another one. That's painful. Snif snif. I have MANY, many books and It's hard to get rid of them... specially since all of them have at least ONE valuable thing to learn... but there are some new coming and I want them so I'm selling these. They're all great and almost in like new condition. The Scrapbookers essential guide to color even has an unopened CD.
