Workshop update: So proud!!!

You know when you're very proud of something you want to brag about it, tell everybody, shout it to the world! Sometimes we feel shy and won't do it.  Other times we don't feel like it's the right thing to do. But this time I feel I SHOULD. I'm just so proud of my students! We're in the middle of week 2 of my online doll Workshop and the progress is amazing!

And not only the work is great. We're building a community of like-minded women who help and support each other and that is just the best part.

You're not too late to join us! The videos are downloadable so you can work at your own pace while being part of this wonderful group!

On Why I Am An Artist

All You Need Is Love

One of my mom's friends died recently. She was someone I appreciated even tough I did not know her that well, I remember she was always smiling and laughing and she lifted my spirits with her happiness. She was a single mom but hardship never affected her good spirit. I liked having her having around.

After the the funeral service, her daughter visited my mom's house to invite her to a group prayer for her mom. She was, as you would expect, very sad and down because her mother died. But as soon as she walked in my mom's house, her face changed. My mom has a huge print of "All You Need Is Love" in her living room and the girl's face changed as soon as she saw the painting.

She turned out to be a big fan of my work, and meeting someone who had my art in her house made her forget for a moment the difficult time she was going trough. They talked about my work, how she likes my paintings and when she asked mom if she knew me and mom said yes, she knows me (After all, she's my mom) the girl was exited and happy.

Sometimes I feel totally down and that my art is unimportant. But when I hear stories like that, where my work has changed someone's life for the better, even for an instant, it makes every sleepless night worth it. I'm into art in to share beautiful things that live in my mind. Every painting is like a kite I lift to the sky, careful tethering it until it touches the clouds. And when the moment is right, I let the cord go, so it can fly and soar on it's own and let it be caught on someone Else's hands to give it a new meaning, a new beginning.

That's why I am an artist. And it makes me immensely happy.

My first art of 2014!

I took a long break from painting during my winter Holiday and then preparing for my new class, "A Doll Story" and I did not paint anything for over a month!

Getting back on my art space and looking at the blank canvases was intimidating to say the least, sometimes I felt like I had forgotten how to paint and was avoiding the pile of canvases and panels waiting for me.

Finally, I took my brush one day and then, just like that, everything came back to me. I started creating and creating an a series of paintings was born. With Valentine's Day around the corner, the choice was obvious, art for my second favorite holiday! Without further ado, here they are. I hope you like them!

And now it's time for a GIVEAWAY!

I've been working a lot on my online doll making class lately. I just realized yesterday that I haven't made any paintings at all since last year... but you know me, when I get obsessed over something I get obsessed! So now it's all about dolls. I've been making small dolls, medium dolls and full size dolls. I also prepared a video promo with sneak peeks at what would be my class. Take a peek!

I'm going to teach how to make 2 different dolls from start to finish. Every little detail. Body, face, hair, shoes, dress, all included. It will be like being here next to me in the studio watching me working.

Many of you have already joined me and are anxiously waiting for it to start. Thank you for that!  By the end of the course you will have 2 beautiful handmade, unique, art dolls and the tools and techniques to keep making your own. You get to keep the pattern and use it for your own creations and all the videos in case you need a reminder about something in particular.

The best is yet to come!

2013 was good. It was hard, but good. And fast. Oh so very fast. Is it just me or the older I get the faster time goes? I've been thinking a lot about that. How I'm getting older (not old yet, just older). How I want my life to be better lived and enjoyed the older I am. How the things I want and the things I'm willing to sacrifice for them have changed too. I'm not the naive girl I used to be. I'm still pretty innocent for many things, but I also more determined and wiser.  I want this 2014 to be the best year of my life. And I'm going to wish the same for 2015. And 2016. And 2017 (you get the idea).

I want to work smarter, not harder. I want a healthier life. I want more quality time with my family and friends. I want more of life. And I think one of the keys to achieve that is to be more mindful. To be more present. I won't have more time. No extra hours during the day. No extra days during the year. I will have the same time as I had last year, and I want to make the best out of what I've got.

Many things are going to change for me and my family during this year (or not! we never know!). Many plans have been laid out. We just have to be patient and wait. If they come they will be very challenging, but welcome. If they don't, well... we'll have to make the best out of what we have.

I wish this year it's your best year yet. Happy 2014!
