La Marelle editions: A dream come true!

I remember when I was at my old job, sitting between 4 walls with a view of endless rows of steel drums filled with chemicals in an ugly, dark warehouse feeling miserable and battling depression.  To make my days more bearable I spent a lot of my free time browsing the internet looking for inspiring art and beautiful illustrations to make my life a little bit more beautiful.

One of the first sites that I found was La Marelle Editions, a publishing company that makes beautiful products with illustrations from artists around the world (some of my favorite ones were there!).

I spent countless hours just surfing through all of their products, imagining that one day I could be part of their team of artists.  And 7 years later guess what? I AM ONE OF THOSE ARTISTS!!!!  A few months ago they contacted me and ask me if I wanted to work with them and of course that I said yes right away.

We're going to start with a series of square cards available here.  So if you happen to see them in Europe or if you want some of my work you can order them from their site.  They're super high quality and very affordable.

I cannot tell you how happy this makes me. It's not about the cards, but about the fact that they selected me between the huge array of wonderful artists out there.  Me, the one that used to dream about being an artist they wish to publish.

By supporting my art all of these years you made this possible. I cannot tell you how thankful I am for the opportunity I've been given of working in my dream job, and that's because of you.

Thank you for helping me make my dreams come true!!!

Halloween 2012: Just 36 days away!

Since it's officially Fall and I'm already in full Halloween mode I think it would be fun to share my latest work (it's all about Halloween!). Gosh! I have so many, many ideas in my mind I just wish I could have more time to make all that I want to do!

The first thing I made was, of course, some mixed media pieces!

A purple haired witch.

Turquoise, orange and purple haired treat-or-tricksters with their vintage style jack-o-lanterns

And of course, a devil, a pumpkin and ghost!
Oh and don't forget the little girl with her jack-o-lantern dress and her candy garland.

I'm planning a big shop update with this and more stuff that it's already on the works and that I'll be sharing soon.
Meanwhile, start making your picks so you'll ready when the time comes!

I'm teaching next year at Life Book 2013!

Have you heard about Life Book?
It is an online workshop that last a full year, in which you will create a life book with a different entry each month with classes taught by more than 14 artists!
I was invited this year to teach a lesson and I can't be happier! All of the teachers are amazing and you'll learn a lot from all of them.

New work!

I'm still trying to catch up from the time away, filling up your orders (thanks so much for those!), answering emails, unpacking (yes, I still haven't finished!) and also taking pictures and making new prints and new art.  It can get so overwhelming if you add my 2 little ones demanding attention (and food) during the day.  I'm so sleep deprived but I spent more than a week without doing any art and I was itching to start creating again and share with you my latest paintings (some of which where made before leaving, and one was made during the workshop!).  So let's begin!

They are already listed in the shop waiting for a kind soul to take them home.
Want to take a peek and learn more about them?

Knitty Kitty. 6x8 Inches on Canvas.
What's better than a kitty that can knit? You don't have to worry about her tangling your yarn or messing up with your knits in progress. She's as tidy as can be and will gladly knit some socks for you in the winter.  And you can adopt her here.

Little Red Riding Hood and Little Green Riding Hood. 8 inches on canvas.
They're both Woodland creatures and love to gather mushrooms and pines to decorate their cabins. They're beautiful by themselves and even better when paired together.
Little Red is available here and Little Green here.

Party Owl. 5x7 inches on Canvas.
Mr. Owl may look a little sad, but he's all ready to party on! He just put his little hat and his bow tie and it's all handsome, don't you think?
Take him to the party here.

"The acorn hunter" 6x8 inches on canvas.
Whenever my daughter and I have the chance, we go hunting for acorns to use their tops as little hats for our fingers. Then we draw faces on them and play together. We love to do this and we will gladly use real acorn hats if there were big enough (or we were small enough!).
This painting was all about that and you can get it here.

"Love is all you need". 8x10 inches on Deep Wood Cradled Panel.
All you need is love. Love is all you need. No matter how you say it, it's so true. I like to remind myself of this and keep it present. At the end, it's all about the love.
Want this reminder all year up displayed at your favorite spot of the house?
Grab it here.

"In a boat" 8x8 inches on deep wood cradled panel.
This belongs to a series I'm making about a girl who is trying to find a place to settle, so she's carrying her home with her around the world in search of that perfect place.
Maybe your home is the perfect place for her.
Get it here.

"Hearts abound" 8x10 inches on deep wood cradled panel.
This is the piece I made as a demo for my live workshop at Crescendoh Studio. It was made step by step while my students were watching and learning from it. It was so much fun! I think this piece captured the good vibes that surrounded us during that day and all the love that was present.
You can get it here.

And remember, if you're subscribed to my newsletter you get to see them first and get free shipping on your order!  Subscribe here!

The Workshop at Studio Crescendoh

I'm back from vacation and I'm trying to organize everything around here and going back to normal. The unpacking is almost finished. We had such a great trip. I meet wonderful souls there and made friendships that I hope to keep for life.  I'm so thankful for all the help I had and the great things and experiences that I had the opportunity to live.

The day of the Workshop I arrived early and was so nervous!  It was originally for 16 people and that day I was told that 19 were going to take it. So I took a deep breath, and in I went into this beautiful historical building, where Studio Crescendoh is located.

I entered the studio and then I knew, I knew I was ready, I knew this was going to be one of the best experiences in my life.

People started arriving and setting up. We say hi to each other, talk a bit and then, suddenly the room was full with people eager to learn and to make art.

We stay there more time than planned, all busy creating, all busy enjoying every minute of it.

This was my first time for many things: The first time that I taught live, the first time that I created in a full room of creative people, the first time that I was surrounded by people that actually get what I do and they love it.

I could keep going and going, talking about all the wonderful things that happened that day, but I'll stop here and just say: Thank you. Thank you for being there and thank you for reminding me that as long as I have people like you I can keep creating and making what I love to do most in my life.

Thank you for being there.

LA Vacations and Teaching at Studio Crescendoh!

I'm super excited today! I'm leaving tomorrow to Los Angeles for 2 things: Teaching at Studio Crescendoh my sold out class "Collage Backgrounds and Painted Girls" and to take a well deserve vacation!!! (Hip, hip, hurray!)

The whole family is going so we're going to be visiting lots of fun places, I'll be updating my Instagram feed very often if you want to take a peek of what we will be doing.  I haven't been on vacation since March, 2010.  And curiously, I went to LA as well...  I get to meet Jenny Doh and Cynthia Shaffer in person and visited Disney for the first time.  Now, thanks to them,  it's the turn of my little ones to experience it for themselves.  This is also the first time that my little boy will be traveling by plane (we usually use a giant bird to transport ourselves but this time we will have to use a traditional method).

Being this my very first live workshop I'm kind of nervous... but I trust everything is going to be alright. I plan to spend a great day with lots of great people willing to learn and make art with me and I'll treasure that forever.  And then, after it is over I'll get to spend a fabulous week in a fabulous city with my fabulous family! (try saying it 3 times!). How lucky I am?!

Tomorrow I'll post a surprise for you!

New Haircut!

I'm getting ready to go and teach my first live class ever at Studio Crescendoh and I'm nervous, exited and everything in between.

Me, Being Pure Me, went and got a haircut this weekend (I tend to do this a lot when I'm nervous about my newest adventure or I'm about to make a big change in my life). I don't know if they do that everywhere, but here they put your back facing the mirror so you can't see yourself when they're styling your hair, so it's always a surprise when you see the result. Specially if you look like one of the girls in your paintings!

She also said I had so sign this disclosure form:
All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

What you you think of my Danita Art Look?
