Collectors and Artists... Beware!!!

Yesterday I was checking out my auctions and made a search for "Danita art" on ebay... and what did I find? The listings of the paintings I'm offering... and an "Oil reproduction" of one of my Frida Collages from a seller on China!!!!! I couldn't believe it!! I knew there's a lot of piracy on ebay but I didn't know that artists were robbed like that! I already contacted ebay and the seller and they removed the auction, but please if you're a collector of my work remember that I only sell my work through ebay with the id "", on etsy "" and on the Pfatt Marketplace. I'm also working with another site right now but is not finished yet so I'll make the announcement when it's officially open. And if you're an artist, it wouldn't hurt if you make a search of your own art. I saw another ebay artist work there being offered as a Frida print too. I've seen her on ebay but I'm not sure who she is... Anyway, better be safe. The funny part was that he's only selling work from BIG artists... (Klimt, Diego Rivera, Monet, Van Gogh) and is writing their biographies in the descriptions... and that seller knows so little about what he's doing that he put my work with Frida's biography as if it were one of her self portraits! At first it was a hoot... but then I got angry and reported it. Artists, look up your art, and report any suspicious activity!

This is going to be my busiest Christmas...

Tonight we finished setting up our mini Christmas tree (bought specially that size for my daughter who is 17 months old). We purchased very few lights and plastic ornaments as to avoid possible danger for her. At first she "helped" us and tried to hang the ornaments. She came and went as any good toddler who can't be in just one place. She was fascinated with the ornaments when one of them fell and started bouncing all over the floor. Everything was perfect and we finished setting up the tree and then she came, with a big bucket, and then she started taking down ALL the ornaments and trowing them into the bucket!!! I'm glad the tree is small and there are not too many ornaments, as I will be decorating it the whole holiday season...

Yesterday I laughed!

Did you have a Happy Thanksgiving? I hope you did. I went to the movies very late during at night (we were only 4 people on the theater). And I laughed. I laughed like I hadn't in a long time. I needed it. I needed the me time. I even came home and made a journal entry with color. After many black, gray and sad blue pages I felt like coloring with a vibrant, happy color. Even if it was just a temporary thing. It made me feel so much better.
It also helps that my mom is here. That always makes me feel loved and taken care of. I'm thankful she's here.

Happy thanksgiving!

Thank you all who had taken the time to write me or leave me a comment about my depression. It really helps. I'm feeling better with the days. I know i need time. This too shall pass. As we say in Mexico "what don't kill you make you stronger". I'm focusing on my family right now. My baby and my husband are my priority and the reason I'm grateful every day. I know I can't change what happened but I can change how I react about it, and this is not time to be this sad. I'll try to cheer up and enjoy the days. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. God bless you.

Depression strikes again

Depression is here again. But this time with a reason. I overheard a conversation I wish I never did. It just changed my life and the way I see the world. The worst part is that I can't say what I heard. I must keep the secret and it's so consuming, pretending everything is fine when it's not. I was so upset that I couldn't paint, I just filled my journal with dark pages until yesterday. Yesterday I didn't paint the pages black, I painted them gray. That's how I feel. Gray. Not red with fury, Nor black with anger. Just gray. Like if I were empty. I tried to paint and this painting is all I managed to make. It depicts me just as I am now. I hope to get through this soon. But I know that the part of me that is empty will never fill again.

It's starting to smell a lot like Christmas...

I'm starting to feel nostalgic... Christmas brings me so many memories from my childhood! I can't help it but get a little bit sad for the days gone by... and for the people that is not here with me anymore... It doesn't help either that I've been playing Christmas music nonstop and drinking ponche (a yummy Mexican tradition). When is brewing my house gets that delicious fruit and cinnamon smell that gets into every corner and bring me back to the days when I counted the days until Christmas and they seemed eternal. Now it's like hey! It's 24 already! I haven't finished shopping for gifts yet!!! Where's the wrapping paper!?!? Who's going to cook the turkey!!!?!? Thank God I had a great childhood to remember. I had the blessing to have my mom and dad and my 2 sisters, and we celebrated with their whole family and I believed so firmly Santa Claus existed that I fought all the kids who told me otherwise. I remember that one of my uncles even laughed like Santa when we were pretending to be sleeping and we jumped out of the bed and ran when my mom told us to come out and open the gifts. And when we had the fortune to get some snow we played outside until our hands couldn't move any more. I could stay here sharing more memories with you, but that smell put me in the mood for some tamales...

Inspired by all my memories and my love for Dogs, I created a series of paintings, the first one called
"Winter Moments". My husband insisted that I called it "Dancing with domesticated wolves", but I'm not so sure about that.... looks like he's watched too many movies.

Sold! Thanks!

What am I doing?

Lots of things! I've been busy as a bee... I have new offerings for this month at the PFATT marketplace. Two pieces are for sale and you can buy them in the site, just click on the pictures and they will take you there.

Both Sold, Thank you!

I'm also working on a series of dolls in boxes. Sorry for the reality background but when I work my my desk is a mess. The main idea was to make some of my 2 color paintings in 3D. So I made the dolls and I'm using boxes as backgrounds. I'm including a Frida (I had to) and instead of one, two mermaids (2 is better than one).

Here are some that are already finished:
lAvailable here.

This cute bunny rabbit doll is for sale on eBay.

Sold. Thank you!

And this doll is available here.

Well, I should get back to work. I have still a lot to scream to my husband, he dropped the camera and now it's not working... not a good time to not have camera...

The most beautiful feedback...

I received a comment in one of my posts that are just worth it mentioning. It's from Mary, one of my collectors, and I've read it and read it over again because it just makes me feel happy.:

Danita, I've been meaning to write on this Blog for ages. I was diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer last year in late November. I discovered your art while I was off from work during my chemotherapy, and as you know, I've been buying quite a bit. Even when I don't buy, I LOVE watching out for the new stuff you're doing. It always brings me great joy! But I did want to share that the last painting I bought ("Trust," with the girl putting her head inside the wolf's mouth) is probably my favorite because it reminds me of how I trusted in God and the love of my friends and the expertise of my doctors -- and even though I've had my head in the wolf's mouth for the past year, I have come through this stronger, happier, and healthier. My last test showed no evidence of Cancer. Hooray! Thank you for all of your beautiful uplifting art! Mary

I'm so happy for her because she's now Cancer free. And I'm happy because my art helped her go through her illness and brought joy to her life. Congratulations Mary!!! I'm so glad to have helped!

Happy Day of the dead !!

Today is day of the dead in Mexico and I'm going to visit some altar expositions today. Day of the dead is one of the most important celebrations in Mexican culture, one in which we honor the dead with altars and mock the grim reaper, or "La Calavera" as we call it. Altars are shrines made for this celebration in which food, candy, flowers, drinks and candles are offered to the spirits of the dead, as the popular belief is that they will come today to visit and share the food and drink and other things we left for them with the living ones who dearly miss them.... But not only altars are made today, also paper mache figures usually resembling skulls, wich is the representation of death itself. And in Mexico City they're making a mega altar with figures of Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, El Santo and others... oh how I wish I could live there sometimes.... Anyway, I meant to make an altar for Frida but all I got around to do was a painting, in honor to her. (She'll be available for sale on Ebay today). I'll take some pictures of the altars and post them tomorrow. I love Halloween, but the best thing about living in the border is that you get the best of 2 worlds and I get to enjoy both traditions.
I hope you have a very pleasant visit today!

Hi Everybody! Did you have a great Halloween? I hope you did, because I did. I even dared to enter to a scare house in my neighbor's house... and this clown was welcoming us inside (as if clowns weren't scary enough... with that face I will not sleep well in a while).... That's were our trick or treating ended because my daughter was so scared of the clown I had to take her home (then I returned with my husband and entered)... very creepy that one, with his balloons and moving veeeery slowly.

Anyway, even though I had a really good time, I'm kind of sad that it ended.... I don't like it the day after...but we have thanksgiving coming.. and then Christmas! I even made my first paintings for each Holiday and some dolls (available at my ebay)... I hope I get over the clown soon and get in the mood for Santa...
