Gracias a la vida... que me ha dado tanto

I learned about Thanksgiving just a couple of years ago. It is not a Mexican tradition, but is a tradition that I've happily adopted. I get together with my neighbors and we bring food and laugh and talk and give thanks. I think it is very important being thankful for all the blessings we have received.

I must confess that I don't pray when I'm going to bed, instead I like to give thanks for 5 blessings each day. Just 5. I now there are more than that but narrowing to just 5 helps me prioritize what it's more important in my life and also helps a lot to remind me that no matter how bad things get some days, there's always more than 5 things to be thankful for.

Even in the worst days I give thanks because I have a bed to rest and a warm house. I have food in my table and a fabulous husband and a beautiful, healthy daughter. I'm even thankful for being able to open the faucet and get water... and I'm lucky enough to decide if I want it warm or cold. There are so many who doesn't have those blessings.

Today, I'd like to give thanks to you.
  1. Thank you for letting me leave my dream. Your support means a lot to me.
  2. Thank you for your feedback, good and bad, it helps me be a better artist and a better person.
  3. Thank you for taking the time to look at my art, to leave a comment or to add me to your favorites. In this cyber world with thousands of blogs and shops opening everyday, I'm very thankful for each person who comes by mine and takes a moment to look at what I have to share.
  4. Thank you for buying stuff from me no matter how big or small. What matters is that by purchasing something from me you allow me to continue with this journey.
  5. Thank you for sharing your stories with me. I'm not that good at making friends, but thanks to you opening your hearts to me, I've met loads of wonderful people and made so much friends that I could have done otherwise.
As the later Mercedes Sosa would sing, "Gracias a la vida, que me ha dado tanto...." (Thank you life for you have given me so much...). Gracias.

Holiday Art coming next week....

Winter is getting closer, the days are shorter, the leaves are almost done falling and cold is slithering all around us. All this change got me inspired and I created a series of collages and paintings to celebrate that winter and the holidays are closer every day. I hope you enjoy them, they will be available starting next week on my Etsy shop.

Getting in the Holiday Mood =)

Yesterday we got all the Christmas stuff from storage and my husband started decorating the house with color lights all over the entrance and my plant containers. I meant to set the Christmas tree but had an art attack and made jewelry... My kid was having a blast rigging up the lights outside and then running around with the neighborhood kids in the park that she forgot all about the tree. I know that now that she's tired from running around yesterday, this is going to be a welcome quiet activity.
I ordered some Holiday Cards just for fun and they arrived yesterday, and I ended liked them so much that I'm going to be offering them for sale on my Etsy shop this coming Tuesday. They have a very nice Satin finish and come with envelopes, ready to send or give =)

3000 Thanks!

Today I woke up late, asked my husband to take our daughter to school so I could catch a little more Z's and then I saw something that woke me up right away! I had the 3000th sale on my Etsy Shop!!! Wow!

I really can't say anything less than a big THANK YOU! for all your support, it really means a lot to me, and believe me, I still get exited every time something sells. Putting my heart on every little thing I make means that a tiny piece of me lives on each piece, and I love to see them go and see the world on their own and I imagine what would their new home be and who will greet them when they are out of the box.

Funny thing, last year on this very same day
I was celebrating the 1000th sale... Funny isn't it?

And to celebrate this super duper event, I am going to have a giveaway on my
Etsy Shop. All you have to do is purchase something from the shop, starting today Nov 18th and until Nov 23rd, you will be automatically entered in raffle for a $50.00 USD Gift Certificate for my shop. The winner will be announced on Nov 24th here on my blog and via eMail.

Good Luck, and once again, Many, Many, Many Thanks for helping me make a dream come true.

2010 Mini Calendar

Here it is... The 2010 Mini Calendar. It's made from 12 ACEO Art Cards, each one with a print of one of my favorite paintings. It's great for placing on your cube's desk, your office or just to give it away because you are very nice =)

And to go with it, handmade gift tags! This is going to be a limited edition. I made them from ancient tags I found on an school and office supplies store that sells things from waaaaay back in the day. They are little embroidered paper treasures just for you.

Both of them are available at my Etsy shop today. Enjoy!! =)

Advent Calendar of Gratitude on Somerset Studio

I have great news to share today! I'm very grateful to be part of the Nov/Dec issue of Somerset Studio with my Advent Calendar!! Don't forget to read Jenny Doh's Editor's letter. Such a beautiful, inspiring letter may I say. If you haven't gotten your copy I suggest you run to your nearest bookstore and get one.

See? That's my name on the cover!

I have prints available of the calendar and I'm working on a special edition magnetic wood block with dolls... let's see how this turns out and I'll let you know ;) The whole issue is so beautiful and full of the Holiday's spirit... which by the way, put me on the mood for some Holiday art!

Mini originals now available at my shop (with lots of vintage mica for a festive look).

And my newest soft doll, available at PFATT Marketplace. She's ready to decorate her glittery tree and is waiting for someone to take her home!

Day of the Dead with a Catrina

Thank you so much for your support to my shop update!!! I added some new paintings too that I didn't show yesterday and I'm working on some other things as well, but that's not what this post is about. This post is about the Day of the Dead. It was all about Frida this weekend.

First we set up the Altar at my daughter's school. Only other 2 moms showed up but we managed to make a pretty good altar. I brought many of my Frida items from home.

I wanted to put some tequila for her but it's a kindergarten and it was not a good example for the kids :P

She got lots of natural flowers and I taught the kids how to make some paper marigolds ;)

We also attended an Altar contest in the local Museum where all the Catrinas from our group were exhibited.

Here are some of my favorites from the show.

And finally, here's mine.

She got a brush and a palette, in case she needs them ;)

And the teacher gave us 2 options for her clothes: Paper mache or Crepe paper. I went for the crepe. If I ever want to dress her differently I just have to remove her clothes and make new ones.

I hope you enjoyed the tour! I have some more news to share but I'll do it another day. I don't want to overwhelm you with so many posts :P

So many new things to share!

It's Day of the Dead already and I have so many pictures to share with you... but the day is not over yet and those pics will have to wait. First I want so share with you pics of some new stuff I've been working on before I start updating my Etsy shop with the new stuff. I'm also working on new jewelry but I'm not finished with that one yet.

Medium size peg dolls with super cute wood mushrooms!

I just got back these dolls that were featured in STUFFED magazine and they will be available too.

Another doll that was also on a magazine, but this one in Art Doll Quarterly ;)

Some new original paintings with unicorns. My daughter just got a mini plastic one and it's been her favorite toy lately.

Mini peg dolls in festive and sparkly coats. They have a house too!

New brooches too! It's been long since I first made them a similar batch and it was time to make another.

Lots of Aceos with vintage and new papers and your favorite images embellished with free motion stitches.

And, since times goes so fast it's never to early to start gathering ornaments for your tree this Christmas season ;)

And finally, a pic of my little Alice going trick or treating. I couldn't make her leave her Elmo basket and use the other one instead... oh well, she's only 3. It's only natural.

She was so excited with all the candy! It's not her first time but it's the first time she actually knows what she was going to get. It was fun! How was your Halloween?
